1. Palmenia Centre for Continuing Education, University of Helsinki (Employability)

The Palmenia Centre for Continuing Education is an independent institute of the University of Helsinki. It provides continuing education, research and development services, and conference services. Palmenia Centre operates at nine locations in southern Finland, with its main location in Helsinki. It co-operates closely with the local municipality and private sector.
The director of the Centre is Professor Kauko Hämäläinen.

The University of Helsinki, with eleven faculties, has the widest range of disciplines in Finland. In addition to this comprehensive base for research, Palmenia provides extensive practical competence and an ability to recognise the needs in education, development and research. The University of Helsinki has been officially recognised as a university of high quality standards in adult education for the years 2004-2006 by the Ministry of Education.

Palmenia organises continuing education in all fields covered by the University of Helsinki. The courses include short courses as well as longer training programmes. Many conversion programmes to upgrade other qualifications to master’s degrees are underway, as well as professional development and diploma programmes to help professionals deepen their expertise.

2. Helsinki Diaconia College (Social Inclusion)

Helsinki Diaconia College functions in accord with Christian ethics. It is a private, vocational place of education in which the varied field of diaconia and social justness are promoted. Its foremost mission is to educate skillful professionals in the fields of social- and healthcare, travel, nutrition and home economics who are committed to love for one´s neighbour and tolerance.

Helsinki Diaconia College offers couching on how to be a part of the working community and provides additional and complementary schooling for professionals. It also promotes equality in schooling by offering education for those individuals who need extra assistance in how to cope in life, how to re-educate oneself and how to prepare oneself for the working life.

3. National Broadcasting Company YLE (Personal Fulfilment)

YLE is Finland's national public service broadcasting company. YLE operates five national television channels and thirteen radio channels and services complemented by 25 regional radio programmes.

YLE has a variety of educational, also adult education programs.

Yle Education’s Learning Gate, "Opinportti" was opened in September 2001. It offers free-of-charge educational and informative content according to various interest groups or themes.

Different user groups can find their own gate amongst the following:

School Gate is a safe learning environment for both pupils and teachers. All School-TV programmes from pre-school to lower secondary school have their "programme cards" for self study and group training.

Language Gate is a virtual language school, open to everybody. People can train with audio and video, learn grammar and have writing exercises.

YLE Open University provides the user with additional information and interactive web material on the open university TV programmes. It is closely connected with the open university network in Finland.

YLE Education - Learning with New Media

The study visit will focus on the use of new media in education from the viewpoint of public service broadcasting company. The main concepts discussed are interactivity, communality and accessibility in cross media products. A number of YLE’s present and future services will be presented as examples of the chosen strategy. A special emphasis will be given to language learning services, which is one of YLE Educations main areas of development.
