CV John Field

John Field serves as Deputy Principal (Research and External Relations). He joined the University in 2002 as Director of the Division of Academic Innovation and Continuing Education.John previously worked at the University of Warwick, where he was appointed the UK’s first Professor of Lifelong Learning. He has also worked in the School of Education, University of Ulster.He has advised a number of government bodies in Britain and elsewhere, and was a member of the National Advisory Group on Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning, whose report influenced the government's Green Paper, The Learning Age. He serves as a governor of Newbattle Abbey College.John's most recent books include Lifelong Learning and the New Educational Order (Trentham), which has just appeared in a Japanese translation, and Social Capital (Routledge), which is also appearing in Italian.
