LLinE Lifelong Learning in Europe

FUTURE Statement to be devised

FUTURE Statement: “Lisbon 2020”

You can reflect on and discuss the statement e.g. by using the following materials and questions. In your final passage write max. 150 characters, brief and precise.

Employability
What skills, qualifications, approaches, and / or attitudes should people learn?
Learning society – time to learn; non-learning society with no time (who owns your time?) or money allowance (who should pay? Who benefits in reality?) for learning.
Externalised and internal (silent) knowledge; how do you externalise knowledge, do you know good / bad examples of integrating education and work?
A basic idea of allowing and encouraging people to use their potential to a maximum, to stretch their boundaries. How can you do that so that it does not stress them, drive them to burn-out?
We need a better idea of what the future communities / groups / teams are for which, and in which we need the learning.
How can we – or should we? – defend the idea of an open Europe, not a fortress Europe? What would it bring along for employability? Whose employability?
Do we learn to produce a good resumé? Or lifelong earning?

Active Citizenship
What skills, qualifications, approaches, and / or attitudes should people learn to be members of the future society?
In a learning society there is time to learn; non-learning society with no time / money allowance for learning. How can you be an active citizen without time for it?
We need a better idea of what the future communities / groups / teams are for which, and in which we need the learning.
To be active citizens, we need a holistic idea of a human being, his/her immediate context / environment and multi-ethnic / multicultural society of tomorrow.
How can we – or should we? – defend the idea of an open Europe, not a fortress Europe? What would it bring along?
Are we citizens of our nation states? Europe (or a part of E.?) / global citizens? – or are citizens of our other reference groups (networks?) without reference to geography or the political entity of state?
Where does our loyalty lie?
Who has a voice in society – and who does not?

Social Inclusion
How does education enhance equity – or does it? Does it bring about a class society?
What is the opposite of exclusion? Inclusion? There is social and personal in-/ exclusion.
There is an idea of open-minded, respectful inclusivity. Who and what should be included / excluded? What does “respectful” mean? “open-minded”? in your work, in lifelong learning?
What skills, qualifications, approaches, and / or attitudes should people learn to avoid / break exclusion?
Education institutions are an obstacle to lifelong learning. They should be changed into learning organisations. How could the whole field of education be reorganised? Knowledge management could be achieved through local partnerships.
Basic skills for all – we need a better idea of what is to be learned, and how to teach/ learn in a world of diversity.
A basic idea of allowing and encouraging people to use their potential to a maximum, to stretch their boundaries.
A better idea of what are the future communities / groups / teams for which, and in which we need the learning.
How can we – or should we? – defend the idea of an open Europe, not a fortress Europe? What does it mean?

Personal Fulfilment
What skills, qualifications, approaches, and / or attitudes should people learn?
A critical perspective on the development of lifelong learning, the changed discourse of lifelong learning and adult education, and its relation to labour market, personal development and society and culture should be discussed.
How can we (or is this a goal at all?) support the basic idea of allowing and encouraging people to use their potential to a maximum, to stretch their boundaries?
What activities develop and support a holistic idea of the person, his/her immediate context / environment and multi-ethnic / multicultural society of tomorrow.
Education institutions are an obstacle to lifelong learning. They should be changed into learning organisations. How could the whole field of education be reorganised? Knowledge management could be achieved through local partnerships.
There is an idea of open-minded, respectful inclusivity. Who and what should be included / excluded? What does “respectful” mean? “open-minded”? in your work, in lifelong learning?
What is “success”?, “a successful person”? Wealth? Education? Security (how achieved?)? Health (how maintained?)?
How will I measure my success?
